How football group-stage standings and qualification scenarios are calculated
All modes award three points for a win and one for a draw. Overall-first ranks teams by points, then overall goal difference and goals scored. Head-to-head-first checks points, goal difference and goals scored from matches among teams tied on total points before returning to overall criteria.
Qualification Scenario Mode keeps exact scores for fixtures marked Played and enumerates only home win, draw and away win outcomes for fixtures marked Remaining. Those branches determine future points exactly without inventing future scorelines. If the qualification cutoff still needs goal difference, goals scored or another rule that cannot be proved from the entered scores, the branch is reported as Tie-break dependent.
Choose how many teams advance from the four-team group according to the competition you are checking. The calculator is a planning tool rather than an official competition ruling.
Football Group Calculator FAQ
Which tie-break methods are available?
Overall-first ranks tied teams by points, overall goal difference and goals scored. Head-to-head-first checks points, goal difference and goals scored from matches among teams tied on total points before returning to overall criteria.
What does Qualification Scenario Mode calculate?
It keeps exact scores for Played fixtures, treats each Remaining fixture only as a home win, draw or away win, and checks every remaining outcome combination for the selected team.
Why can a scenario be tie-break dependent?
A win, draw or loss fixes the points awarded but not the future score margin. If qualification depends on goal difference, goals scored or another unsupported competition rule that cannot be known from exact entered scores, the result is marked tie-break dependent.
How many qualifying places should I select?
Choose the number of teams that advance from this four-team group according to the competition you are checking. Scenario Mode does not assume a federation or tournament format.
Can every official tie be resolved automatically?
No. Competitions may use additional criteria such as disciplinary records, rankings or drawing lots. When the available scores and outcome branches cannot prove the order, the calculator reports the result as tie-break dependent.
Can I save a tournament?
Yes. The existing four-team names, exact scores and tie-break preset can be saved locally in this browser. Qualification Scenario Mode state is temporary and is not added to shared URLs or saved tournament data.
